Pharmacodynamics: Gentamicin sulfate is an antibiotic with bactericidal action, killing bacteria by binding to the 30S subunit of ribosomes and disrupting protein synthesis. This disrupts bacterial function and leads to cell death. Effective against various Gram-negative and some Gram-positive bacteria, gentamicin is reserved for serious infections.
Pharmacokinetics: Administered parenterally due to limited oral absorption. It quickly reaches peak concentrations after injection, distributing widely in tissues. Primarily eliminated unchanged via the kidneys, has a short half-life of 2-3 hours in those with normal renal function.
Gentamicin sulfate is a broad-spectrum antibiotic used in poultry, aquaculture, and livestock for the treatment of bacterial and mycoplasma diseases.
