Product Description

Niclosamide Bolus is an anthelmintic containing Niclosamide B.P. Vet, active against tapeworms and intestinal flukes such as paramphistomum in ruminants.

Generic Name: Niclosamide Tablets
Appearance: This product is light yellow.
Pharmacological Action

This product is a tapeworm killing drug. It has good expelling effect on the naked head tapeworm, leafy naked head tapeworm and dwarf paranaked head tapeworm of horses. It is effective against monitz tapeworm, Taenia solium and striped tapeworm of cattle and sheep, and has the same effect on the scolex and somite of tapeworm. It is effective against Taenia solium canis, Taenia pisiformis, Taenia solium and Taenia solium in dogs and cats, but poor against Echinococcus granulosus in dogs. It can drive and kill Taenia solium and Taenia infundibulum of birds. It also has the function of killing snail, Schistosoma cercaria and miracidia.

The mechanism of action of this product is that it inhibits the absorption of glucose by tapeworms, uncouples the oxidative phosphorylation process in the mitochondria of tapeworms, blocks the tricarboxylic acid cycle, leads to the accumulation of lactic acid, and kills tapeworms. The anthelmintic effect of niclosamide may also be related to its over stimulation of ATPase activity in mitochondria. The damage degree of Taenia solium was related to the time of drug action.

This product is rarely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract after oral administration and maintains a high concentration in the intestine. A small amount of absorbed offspring will be metabolized into inactive niclosamide metabolites, which are mainly excreted from feces.

Drug Interaction & Usage
Can be combined with levamisole to treat mixed infections of tapeworm and nematode in calves and lambs.
Combined with procaine, it can improve the efficacy of niclosamide on Taenia solium.
Indications: Used for taeniasis of livestock and poultry and paragonimiasis of ruminants.
Oral Dosage: 40 ~ 60mg for every 1kg body weight.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. What is the primary use of Niclosamide Bolus?
Niclosamide Bolus is primarily used as an anthelmintic to treat tapeworm infections (taeniasis) in livestock, poultry, and intestinal flukes in ruminants.
2. How should the dosage be calculated for different animals?
The recommended oral dosage is generally 40 to 60mg for every 1kg of the animal's body weight.
3. What is the mechanism of action against parasites?
It works by inhibiting glucose absorption and uncoupling oxidative phosphorylation in the tapeworm's mitochondria, leading to an accumulation of lactic acid which kills the parasite.
4. Can this product be used with other medications?
Yes, it can be combined with levamisole for treating mixed tapeworm and nematode infections, or with procaine to enhance its efficacy against certain tapeworm species.
5. Are there specific storage requirements for Niclosamide?
The product should be stored in a controlled environment to prevent exposure to extreme high or low temperatures, ensuring its stability and effectiveness.
6. Is the drug absorbed into the animal's system?
